THE SITES COVERED BY THE REGULATIONS: Any container with a storage capacity of over 2000 litres. Any industrial, commercial or institutional site, e.g. factories, shops, offices, hotels, schools, public sector buildings and hospitals. Single family dwellings with oil storage of less than 3,500 litres are not covered by these Regulations. Courts have new stronger powers for oil polluters, including unlimited fines. The clean up costs also fall to the polluter, which vary, dependant on the severity of the oil spill. It is always much safer to fit a bunded tank in the place of an ordinary tank even at domestic premises.
